I guess we all know that it is widely accepted that a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and glass of water scoped from the toilet bowl are easily mistaken for the same thing. Who else but Kym Teusner could find a way to make this room filling pungent varietal that ignorant kiwis love into something clean, crisp and fresh, even for a now 'aged' Blanc (at 2 years old). Well done Kym, you achieved the impossible but the varietal is still a swipe left offence for me.

Clean nose. Intensity medium (-). Interesting though – hard to pick as a SB, with floral and jasmine notes, lactose (lees?) and hints of tropical fruit. Dry style on the palate – acidity medium (+), medium (-) body, medium (+) flavour intensity. This is my kind of SB – racy acidity (too much for some I reckon) surround sherbet, grapefruit and lime. Salivating. Moves to white peach and fresh cut pineapple. Could pass this off as a Rizza or Sem I reckon. Very good wine for me but will polarize opinion.

Wine Tasting for friends (Old Airport Road): Light yellow colour. Fruit nose which opened up into floral notes as the wine warmed up slightly. Zesty green apples, fresh grass, and some hints of pineapple on the palate. Light easy drinking. None of the usual Sauvignon Blanc tartness on the finish. The simple straight-forward flavours were easy to pick out even for the beginners. Everyone loved this, some guessing it was a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. They were surprised that it was an Aussie Sauvignon Blanc. My wine journey first started with whites. And this is one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I have had.
