Lovely stuff. The fruit comes from six acres of Zinfandel vines planted just south of Calistoga between the 1890s and 1930s. Pepper, spice and dark fruits on the nose. Raspberry, black cherry, bit of anise on the palate. The fruit is ripe and rich, but not overbearing at all. Firm tannins and nice acidity. Good balance and not a hint of heat. Gets better with air. Finishes long and spicy with fruit notes from the front of the palate. Just a nice Zin. With grilled lamb rib chops. Shows no sign of fading over the next few years.

Past prime. Fruit is porty (in a bad way). Just waited too long.
