Blend of 70% Tempranillo with 30% Graciano, a variety that has been uprooted in the region favouring other allowed grapes making what has remained very old vines. At Muga, they get rid of 60% of the bunches, their lower half during green harvest. The wine was aged for 18 months in new, Tronçais barrels along with a minimum of 12 months in bottle. Aro has been made since 2000 and there has been a change in the design of the label recently. Deep, inky black with a narrow, purple rim. Like the Torre Muga, this does not reveal much at the start opening up later into a plummy, black cherry nose accented by chocolate and spicy scents. Dense, ripe and sweet palate with a spicy attack that gives a lift to the ripe fruit profile. Velvety yet strong tannins, and a long, muscular finish. Very early to drink at the moment.
