Very good within the style, which pretty much is Sauv Blanc made with techniques more associated with Chardonnay, and leading to a much fuller body. Grapefruit and wet stones are the dominant notes, with all sorts of tropical and stone fruit notes raining their head from time to time. This took about a half hour or so to open up and kept evolving from there. I think these can hang on for several more years, but I'd be a little concerned with the wood notes becoming too pronounced, which was a big problem with the 2010 "long aged" bottling (although that had a MUCH more assertive barrel aging).

Wonderful nose of tropical fruits. Consistent tastes of tropical fruits, a bit of minerality and a bit of citrus. Tasted best slightly chilled. Overall, a delicious bottle.

Central Coast Trip; 3/30/2014-4/1/2014: Sampled at tasting room. Shows a tropical fruit profile similar to the cheaper Happy Canyon bottling, but is more grassy/herbal than the Happy Canyon bottling, so I did not like this one as much. For those who like the style though, they should enjoy it.

Similar stylistically to the 2009 Happy Canyon bottling, although I believe that was a blend of the Vogelzang and Grassini vineyards, but it trades in some of the riper tropical notes for strong minerality on the finish. It is clearly more ripe and full bodied than the '10's or '11's. This is very full bodied and viscous for a sauvignon blanc and is firmly on the lush, ripe end of the spectrum. It stops short of going towards ripe pineapple flavors, but it still has tropical undertones with acidic pink grapefruit notes on top. All of this is supported by creamy vanilla notes from the oak. I think it could use a little some in the cellar to fully integrate, which seems a little crazy for a California sauvignon blanc. After recently having a spectacular '09, these should age easily for 5-7+ years. These are singularly unique wines that are worth seeking out, provided you aren't a Sancerre purist.
