Nicely balanced and with all the right fruit flavors and aromas you'd expect out of a zin. Blackberry and black tea mix with a hint of tar and cedar, and there's just a bit of peppery spiciness in the finish. That said, there seems to be a little something missing to give just a bit more complexity; maybe the tannins have rounded out a little too well, maybe the acidity could be a touch zippier. Don't get me wrong, this is a very nice wine, but I do feel like I'm constantly in search of something that's just outside its reach that would elevate to a great wine.

2 tastings over an hour or two poured direct to the glass using the Coravin, with 15 minutes in the glass before the first tasting. The bottom line is that I want to love this wine. The structure and balanced between the tannins and acid to my inexperienced palate seems perfect, the finish is long and beautiful with just hint of pepper and spice. Finally, the wine texture is silky and smooth. All this being said the blackberry, black currant (cassis), and plum, with hints of coffee, oak, clove and tea on the nose and palate are very good to be sure but just did not impress me. This is my first Zinfandel in a long time, so maybe I am off Zinfadel for now.

Medium-light red and violet color. Up front Zinberry (Doug Nalle's word, now mine too) fruit, with just a touch of oak spices. On arrival, low-medium tannin and low-medium acidity; very deft balance of extract and restraint. Zinberry galore, just a great mouthful of raspberry, blackberry and red cherry fruit. Finishing acidity is brisk, extending the fruit and spice nicely. This is starting to shape up like a classic Nalle zin release. Bottle #2 of six.

This bottle was pretty flat and didn't come together very well. Finished with some astringency. Can't tell if it will improve with further aging.
