Luigi Oddero Rocche Rivera 2007. A earthy nose of truffle, licorice, earth, some spice, mushrooms, umami. On the palate, red fruit, truffle, licorice, clove, cola, mushrooms, Chinese candy, herbs. Quite smooth and integrated. 93/100

Late night Maison Dakota. Thickest wax top I ever had to get through to reach the cork. Pop & pour - mistake. Drank much better on day 2 after generous air. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, garnet colour. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of soy, spice, black cherries, dark red cherries, dark plum, licorice, stony earth. Day 2 with truffle and more expressive earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity (better on day 2), with flavours of light spice, savoury soy, black cherries, dark red cherries, dark plums, licorice, tar earth, bit of menthol. Long finish. Very good quality. Much better mouth-feel and harmonious integration of fruit and earth with more air. Rocche Rivera is a subplot from the upper portion (more favourable exposition) of the Scarrone cru in the commune of Castiglione Falleto. It is just below the castle of Castiglione Falleto and adjacent to the famous Rocche (di Castiglione) cru.
