  • A private lunch with friends (at home): Ninth bottle from a full case. Part of a barrel purchased by "Les Amis du Vin de PwC" at the Hospices de Beaune auction in 2011. Elevé et mis en bouteille par Seguin-Manuel a Beaune. Pristine condition. Not decanted. I wanted to pair this with the 2010 Guigone de Salins also served today, but unfortunately it was flawed. There is a raw edge with a touch of cocoa powder which kills all finesse and elegance. Flawed.

  • Eighth bottle from a full case. Part of a barrel purchased by "Les Amis du Vin de PwC" at the Hospices de Beaune auction in 2011. Elevé et mis en bouteille par Seguin-Manuel a Beaune. Pristine condition. Not decanted, opened 2.5 hours in advance. Showing very well today. Ripe red berries, stalky energy, gentle spicy sweetness from the oak, nutty evolution, fresh and bright palate, energetic with a nicely grippy 2011-finish. Lovely tension, balance and harmony. Does exactly what is says on the tin. Drink now and over the next five years.

  • Seventh bottle from a full case. Part of a barrel purchased by "Les Amis du Vin de PwC" at the Hospices de Beaune auction in 2011. Elevé et mis en bouteille par Seguin-Manuel a Beaune. Signs of recent seepage: level circa 2.5 - 3 cm below the cork. The wine displays a youthful, ruby red colour and it does not seem affected in any way, even if it is very tight and stalky at first. After three hours in the open bottle, it is completely transformed. The nose is aromatic, with complex fruit ranging from peach to blueberries, roses and violets, a pleasant touch of sweet oak and pepperiness from the stalks; the palate is bright and energetic, with stalky tannins balanced by just enough ripe fruit; the finish is slightly grippy and drying - consistent with the vintage. An amazing companion for a lightly creamy pasta sauce with spicy fennel sausages. I will drink my remaining five bottles over the next five years.

  • The clean and aromatic nose displays lovely notes of baked cherry fruit, flowers and spice, with a hint of earth and slightly resinous oak; better oak integration on the palate than 8 months ago, nice freshness and mineral drive, but there is a phenolic dryness on the finale that might indicate that the tannic structure is just a bit too firm after all for the available weight of fruit; finish is light but length is good. I like the purity and delineation, but maybe a bit awkward right now?

  • Wonderfully pure, ripe cherry fruit, energetic and mineral, with bright acidity, good intensity and length. The oak is quite separated at present and requires time to integrate. Revisit in 2017/2018. Should be pretty good by then. On the second day it is more harmonious, a wine of elegance and breed, linear and precise, flavours of black cherry and spice, very long, just has some tannins to resolve.
