  • 13,5% alcohol. Served blind.

Concentrated, almost completely black-rd color with some bricking towards the rim. Very concentrated, heavy and opulent nose with powerful aromas of sweet oak, pipe tobacco, earthiness, some smoke, a little bit of Pinosity, a hint of blackcurrant and subtle nuances of peppery spice, ripe strawberries and even a touch of dill. The wine is full-bodied, ripe and pretty weighty on the palate with concentrated flavors of sweet oak spice, dark chocolate bitterness, sweet strawberry, some cocoa, a little bit of earthy Pinosity and a hint of dill. The wine feels somewhat structured with moderate acidity, although the tannins feel very mellow and easy. The finish is rich and weighty with ripe, concentrated flavors of strawberries, peppery wood, ripe dark fruits, some cocoa and a hint of vanilla.

This is a real powerhouse for a St. Laurent and thus was a difficult wine to pintpoint to Austria. The concentration and noticeable oak character really threw people off quite a bit - you really don't think of Middle Europe when faced with a blockbuster like this. The wine is still ridiculously young for one at more than 15 years of age and most likely it will take a lot more years for the wine to reach its plateau of maturity. Seeing how there is not much of developed character going on here, I'm pretty confident in saying this wine seems to age at a glacial pace. Not really my cup of tea with its heavy oak character and concentrated fruit, but I can imagine the will be wonderful once it ages more. I just have no idea how much longer it will take.
