I hated this wine at first. Initially it was harsh, gritty, and hot with alcohol. A long 4-5 hour decant changed all that. The air turned it into an absolutely beautiful wine. Elegant and silky, with deep layers of fruit, spice, and flowers. Everything seemed to come together in perfect proportion. Hold this one unless you’re prepared to give it a many-hour decant

Very enjoyable. Opened and decanted for about 60 minutes, which I recommend also due to sediment. Medium tannins, deep red color with 30 second finish. Dark fruits remain, but more baking spice and chocolate hints on the back end. Medium weight so could be very versatile with food right now - we had with baked chicken and mushrooms but would handle steaks too

Drank Feb 2023. 2.5 hour decant. 2011 was not the typical Napa vintage, much cooler. You can taste that in the wine. Honestly, if you poured this blind in a lineup with Bordeaux you’d be hard pressed to pick this out as California. Not that it’s a bad thing. It’s frankly a nice change of pace. Had this with a meal of cassoulet. Feminine, regal, well integrated at this point in its life. If you dig Bordeaux over Napa, you’ll dig this. Though maybe not the QPR for what it delivers. It’s in a good spot now, but likely coming down out of its prime drinking window. On the nose I get the wet leaves in fall I get on many Bordeaux. Some leather. And some pockets of red and black fruit. Great wine from a tough vintage by California standards. Drink up, it’s ready.

Decanted one hour. Blackberry, smoke and herbs come through. Full bodied, rich enveloping. A little warm. Overall a good drink but lack a bit of focus.

Just opened a bottle now and the nose is overwhelming with floral notes of violet and predominant red fruit; the nose is absolutely beautiful! The palate is full of deep, dark fruit vanilla, oak , black cherry and the purity is amazing. It’s in a great place for a 2011, the tannins are almost fully resolved, and the window is wide open for drinking if not at its peak. It’s just stunning but a feminine pure stunner. If Charlize Theron could be a wine, it would be this. This wine softens over time so jump on it in the near future!
