  • Very dark center, red rim with moderate signs of age.
Sweet, brandied cherries, blackberries, molasses and white chocolate.
Smooth and sweet, great dark fruit - blackberries and black plums, alcohol is present but not obtrusive, modest tannin and acidity, black cherry yoghurt on the long finish.
Excellent vintage port, very classically styled - British. Drinking very well at close to 30 years, but still has a few years to go.

  • I've had bottles of this in my cellar since soon after release. Decanted and then poured into glasses. Some ruby/garnet signs of age on the rim, but not really as dark in the center as I would have expected for such an exalted vintage. With some coaxing, brandied cherry, pipe tobacco, clove, and eucalyptus on the nose, warm velvet spice, and kirsch on the palate, just a hint of heat from the marc, lovely high-toned dry finish with good length. As a previous review mentioned, not terribly complex but very pleasing. If you've got a few of these, and you know they've been well-stored, start opening them -- this is not in need of more time in bottle, not that it's tired, but this is delicious now -- why wait? Drink now -- 2030?

  • Deep dark center, dark red rim with songs of age.
    Blackberries, creamy, plums, raspberry jam.
Fairly dense, smooth and sweet, blackberries and jam, modest tannins, some acidity, leafy tobacco, wonderful finish, with great length.
Excellent Gould Campbell vintage port, not up to the legendary 1977 but still worth seeking out. Drinking well now, but good for another 5-10 years.

  • Drinking well now.

  • A relatively simple but enjoyable port. It certainly didn't feel like infanticide and I'm not sure it is going to improve a lot from here. It would hold for another 10 years or so.
