This wine was opened last night, at which time it was pretty tight and unyielding. Now, it has opened beautifully (though it is still a big, bold wine), and right off it had a very distinctive nose of something I had smelled before. And now it occurs to me what that is: it smells just like several bottles of petite sirah I had years ago from value producer Bogle, from the Clarksburg region of California. In fact, a dead ringer! This wine is even better than that wine, overall. Very black ruby, completely opaque. The nose is rich, brambly and full of blackberry aromas, which are entirely primary. Very reminiscent of the Bogle on the palate as well, this is just mind-blowingly rich and extravagant. I am shocked that this is 6 years past vintage, and still so young. Easily the best Vinsobres I have ever tasted, and a real talisman of what can be done from fruit in this region. Wow! 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

Nothing wrong. Just a bit heavy without much complexity. Probably too young.

Sweet black currant, hoisin, blackberry, chalky, musky vanilla, gorgeous. Excited to try the next 3 bottles. Young but refreshing and beautiful.
