  • Decanted for 1h the back into bottle. Now 4 h after decant. Lovely aromas of red and black cherries, leather, roses, and a bit of bark. Palate w red cherries, minerals, roses. Medium body w excellent acids. Moderate tannins. Nice finish. Elegant. So good now but can see this evolve over the next 5+ yrs.

  • As others have mentioned, this is drinking beautifully right now. Very generous Nebbiolo. Pretty masculine in stature—more game and dark fruit than your classic orange tinges. Fell apart on day 2, so would recommend sticking to day 1, no need to decant that I found. No rush, but lovely at the moment

  • In such a good spot right now. This is generous yet complex and suave. This has several years left. Lots of classic Nebbiolo notes. Better than the 2011 I had a few weeks ago (much more generous).

  • My last of 4 bottles. This wine was purchased, in or about 2014, at a wine store-wide tasting where it was a standout. PnP and consumed over three hours. Translucent ruby. Earth, spice, musk on the profound (and with airing, perfumed) nose. Dark fruits at first, prunes, and with airing, cherries. Concentrated, moderate complexity, delicious wine, nice grip, length, finish. This shows more breed than one would expect from a generic Langhe. But then again, this is Roagna. If you still have these, give them air before consuming - this was best at 3 hours, without a decant. Excellent.

  • Double decanted then drunk over a few hours.

A beguiling, floral nose with roses, red fruited nebbiolo, tar, and cooling menthol- balsam notes. And did I mention roses? What I love is there is a fleeting, almost delicate nature to this nose, in spite of its intensity. There is an elusive, intoxicating perfume that draws you in.
Midweighted and floral on the palate, with terrific inner mouth perfume. This has a sense of grace and poise that Luca seems to be able to achieve better than most. Supple, sappy, intense, yet simultaneously lifted and fresh. Intensity without weight. It's long on the back end with terrific perfume and balsam notes. Finishes with fine ripe nebbiolo tannins. This a wine comfortable in its skin: beauty without artifice. Harmony.

If one were to try to introduce someone to the perfume and power without weight ability of Nebbiolo, one could do much worse than this excellent example. Luca makes many more impressive wines than this, but the joy and ease of this bottling are pretty special. A terrific, effortlessly delicious Langhe Rosso that I feel I caught at its absolute apogee.

Interestingly, this is will not be anywhere among the most impressive or majestic Nebbiolo wines I hope to be fortunate enough to drink this year, yet this bottle is exactly why I adore nebbiolo. A nuanced, effortlessly beautiful bottle of wine. Bravo!
