We bought this during a tasting at Biale in 2015. They're one of our favourite zin producers. We tasted 5 zins, including Pagani, Stagecoach, and Black Chicken, and this was my favourite. The vineyard is in the Rockpile AVA in northern Sonoma County, close to the Mendocino County border. This was a lovely, elegant zin, but I agree with other posters on these points: it threw off a lot of sediment (not a bad thing) and it's past it's peak. Not way past it, but it didn't live up to the note I wrote when I bought it. Admittedly, I didn't share my viewpoint with our guests who quite enjoyed it! I realize now, that when I tasted it in 2015, it was quite elegant compared to the others, but didn't have enough power to go another 6+ years and continue to get better. Drink up!

Funky appearance - a bit cloudy and threw a lot of sediment. Rustic nose with dusty black raspberry, black cherry, and sassafras with leathery notes. Black cherry, iron, and a broad swath of red fruit on the palate. Tart finish with sour cherry and earth and smooth tannins. At the latter stages of its life, so drink now but this looks like the best score we've given it - maybe we've gone soft.

I think it's still drinking good, my wife compares all Biale's to Black Chicken and wasn't crazy about it
