Three late '90s Baroli tasted double blind: Fully decanted several hours before tasting. A lighter, slightly browning colour. A slightly stinky nose of decomposing moss, red fruited with citrus notes and a little cheese. On palate, slightly raisiny dried red fruit and prunes, with cut hay. I thought it was a traditional Barolo from the 1980s, then a 1990 because of the riper year. Seeing this Cogno was a 1998 was a disappointment (I like the house very much), it seemed prematurely advanced. At least on this evidence, drink soon.

Deep dark red colour, nose with black fruit and plum, some chocolate. Taste with black fruit, plum, spices, a bit mushroom and truffle. Nice soft tannins. Good mature Barolo.

Drank really well, nice intergration slight hint of tannin remaining, came asfter two 99's, Clrico and giacosa Sv's and held it's own. More accesible now in alot of aspects than the 99's. Drink now through thenext 3-5 years
