  • Deep golden color with slight, youthful green hue. Very intense and expressive nose with aromas typical of the variety: dried pineapple, papaya and apricot jam. However, there are some curious characteristics in the background, like some asparagus, root vegetable, vegetal hints of green pea and a touch of milky MLF. The palate is sweet, intense and full-bodied, but also sporting lovely, pronounced acidity. Flavor-wise there are notes of apricot and apricot jam, pineapple, overripe white grapes, fruit salad syrup, lemon maramalade, florals, some green vegetable nuances and a hint of saline minerality. At times, the flavor seems very grapey. Overall the palate is super-juicy and succulent, yet not without lovely freshness and structure. Lots of acidity in the crisp finish with intense flavors of candied lemon, lemon marmalade, grape juice, spice, some ginger and a hint of vegetal, cucumber-and-asparagus greenness.

A very tasty and complex dessert wine with a lot of weird and interesting character, and completely lacking the typical characteristics of a ripe Rotgipfler: heavy body and low acidity. The wine was surprisingly acid-driven and thus so intense, it seemed to overwhelm the crepes we had paired it with. Probably the wine could've paired better with a sweeter dessert, or possibly with a strong, aromatic cheese? Has tons of cellaring potential - will most likely keep wonderfully for years, even decades - despite the age of 4 years, the wine was extremely primary. The stelvin closure will guarantee that the wine will age easily without any fear of premature oxidation or TCA. Very interesting, impressive and thoroughly recommended; reasonably priced at 19,90€ for a half bottle.
