  • Made mainly from the grapes of young, 10-15 yo Syrah vines (50%) with some old vine Carignan (20%), Grenache (20%) and Mourvèdre (10%) in the mix. Carignan is vinified with carbonic maceration, the rest are vinified traditionally in cement cuves. 60-70% of the wine is aged for 10 months in old oak barrels, 30-40% in cement cuves.

Only slightly translucent dark cherry color. Very aromatic and expressive nose with attractive aromas of ripe cherries, dark forest fruits, exotic spices, some Grenache's strawberry fruit, a little hint of sweet floral nuances (might be even a slightest touch of volatile lift), a hint of sun-baked sandy soil and a whiff of herbal garrigue. On the palate the wine is quite rich, juicy and full-bodied with ripe, fruit-forward flavors of plums and sweet blackberries, supported by a nice dose of Syrah's peppery spice. Even though the wine seems to be only medium in acidity, it feels quite firm and structured, all thanks to the moderately ample and grippy tannins that keep the concentrated body nicely in check. Great balance and alcohol (14%) is kept in check. Quite rich and powerful finish with earthy and sunny flavors, concentrated dark fruits, some bitter spice and a slightest hint of savory wood.

A tremendous entry-level Roussillon red. Stylistically not so far removed from Rhône reds made with a similar style blend, but shows more of that earthy local color. Not really "rustic" per se, but neither does the wine feel too polished. At its price point (12,80€) this is a really great bigger and heavier red with good bite and structure. Definitely more interesting than a great majority of Côte-du-Rhônes and many simpler Languedoc reds at the same price.
