Usually, a plastic cork is easier to get out than a real cork, so this was a bit worrisome. Decanted & filtered. On first taste, there was a bit of astringency, which was also worrisome. Gave it about an hour in the decanter, and that totally went away. Dark fruits, but nothing way up-front. Some nice earthiness, which I like in my Italians (wine, we're talking wine!). Didn't seem quite as good as an earlier bottle of the 2003 we had a few months ago. We have a bottle of the 2006, and it will be interesting to see how it compares. Good with food, in this case: pizza.

  Simple wine with nice fruit flavors and a mellow texture. Decent value but not overly exciting.
