A lands little flat. Has a few interesting notes but ends up face palming. Plum and blueberry nose, with some vegetal undertones. Mid pallet is nice, but astringent finish

I've had the 2009, which was pretty good, but this one seems like it's headed towards the end of the drinking window. If you have this one, I'd drink it now. It's still pretty good, just not wonderful. I've been spoiled.

With minimal decanting the first thing I tasted was methoxypyrazine - the herbaceous, green bell pepper flavors which I seem sensitive to and tart bitterness. To me, these two things overshadowed anything in the bottle. I let it sit one day, then two days hoping that it would blow off. Sadly, it only diminished a little. I was very disappointed with El Jefe's bottle of Syrah. I even had it with some pasta, hoping that it would improve. It didn't. I poured out the last 1/2 glass. (Note: I just opened the 2009 Syrah from Twisted Oak and I got some of the same, but not as intense. Later today I'm going the aerate the heck out of if to see if I can improve it!)

Strong cedar note while pouring into the decanter; somewhat more muted in the glass. Slightly sour, but not unpleasantly so.
