As I think we've mentioned in the past, we are not big fans of merlot in the normal course - but Jarvis is always a welcome exception! This was our 4th of July bottle this year. The 2018 consensus community end-date is wildly off-base, this should be at least 2025 or later. Am putting in 2028 to hopefully get the date to budge at least a year forward. But in any case, many more years ahead for this exceptional merlot.

Exceptional. Garnet color. Vanilla, spicy nougat, boysenberry with a fruity medium-to-full body with a sweet lingering finish.and a tangy plum tart, baking spices and herb bread accented finish.
Time to drink 🍷 up!

I’ve tasted ‘10, ‘11, ‘12 and ‘13 vintage Merlots and am always surprised at how well the ‘11 shows. The nose highlights the vintage with some green notes, but there is a dirty and spicy kick to it that livens it up. Potpourri, cherry and dusty blackberry round it out. Absolutely impeccable texture and balance from start to finish...drinking perfectly at 7-years old. Black cherry, dark chocolate, cassis, violet, muddled rhubarb.
Fairly surprised by the ratings on here for this wine, though I suspect age had something to do with it. Jarvis wines aren’t the new Napa-style fruit bombs, so they will never be as agreeable as others. For a 2011 wine, this was quite nice.
