Medium yellow color. Beautiful nose of toasted brioche with apricot and peach jam. Rich and round on the palate. Absolutely delicious and loaded with more of the same toasted brioche and pit fruit jams. Saline finish. Absolutely fabulous and what a bargain! 93

The wine I am reviewing is made by the cooperative of "Champagne Le Mesnil", which blends the wines from qualifying members into a flagship wine called "Prestige Millesime", which here is from the 2005 vintage. Very importantly, this wine on the label does not claim to be a Blanc de Blanc, although there is also a Prestige Blanc de Blanc produced. This wine is the first I have tasted since the 1996 vintage that resembles the saber acidity, concentration, and intensity of that great vintage. I had just one opportunity to buy this wine at $50 a bottle, and got all I could, which is one of my best buys from 2017. Tasting this side by side with a 1996, I scored it just 1 point lower.

Beaucoup de brioches au nez qui dévoile son seul cépage. En bouche on a un goût de pain grillé. Bonne acidité, pas extrêmement gras pour un blanc de blanc. C'est bon mais ce n'est pas exceptionnel pour le prix.

This is good sophisticated Champagne. Slightly pale color. Tiny bubbles. Lovely big nose even when too cold. Apple, melon, brioche, yeast, acidity, and honey when cold groeing richer as it warms. Quite lovely.
