  • This 2013 seems to have bottle variation: tasted a couple of years ago it was boring and ordinary, yet tasted again last month (Feb 2018) it had improved significantly, it’d redeemed itself thoroughly, though now, a month later and another bottle same vintage, again boring and very ordinary. See-saw wine.

Decanted. Room temp. Looks light-bodied. Flavours short and lacking any charm. Have resolved, finally, to not buy again.

  • Bought online Naked Wines UK,approx £13.00 2015
Mike Paterson's Ben Morven Hills contracted vineyard, Marlborough, NZ.

Much better/improved from my last tasting of this vintage. Still some grippy tannins, but not in an annoying green/edgy way - as was previously my experience. Now drinking fuller, softer, more mature - obviously - just drinking much better. Dry style, a Foodie style. Crunchy.

VFM? Not complex, or especially interesting wine, even, but for around £13.00 it's pretty good VFM. Initially I had thought this wine wouldn't reward cellaring - not enough power - but it has. I'm no longer a member of online Naked Wines UK, but I'll keep an eye out for Mike Paterson to see where he's working outside of NW UK.

  • Bought Naked Wines UK online around £13.00 in 2015.

Made by ex-Jackson Estate winemaker, Mike Paterson. He used facility Makers & Providers in Blenheim, Marlb. Organic certified fruit. (Which vineyard?)

Disappointed. Expected better from this 2013 bottle and this winemaker.

Nothing much on nose (not decanted, in glass only).

Taste: warm spices, some wood, at least it had good acidity, but it is a simple wine with drying tannins, no charm, no real power and length, nothing at all complex about it, no richness or silky texture. It is short, and finishes dry, plus there's an annoying metallic impression, oddly, and an unripe veggie edge - weird, from the 2013 vintage in Marlb. I have a few more bottles so will just leave them alone for another 3-4 yrs, see if it gets better (it's gotta,' can't get worse than this)

Marked it a sad Bronze - at best.

VFM? No, not at £13.00....worth half that.

  • An elegant, rich fruity wine with stacks of raspberry, damson and mulberry flavours. Has more depth and balance than the basic wine from this producer and the aftertaste is quite lengthy making this a most enjoyable wine. Has enough structure and tannin to last and improve over the next five years during which time the fruit, acid and tannin should integrate further.
