  • Dark brick red with high optical density and medium specular reflectivity. Nice intense aromas, with a fresh, juicy intimation. Aromatics, tart red fruits, and aromatic hydrocarbons, with a spicy and earthy twist (herbs and wafts of oak). Full bodied, with fresh acidity and a texture that is plush, yet juicy enough to not feel over done. Tannins are light and just enough on the back end for structure and a clean finish. Flavours of medium red fruits, with a bit of balsamic and olive providing a vinous character to the fruit on the attack. Not quite stewed, but just rounded off. The midpalate is ok, perhaps a bit of a hollow, but does show some cranberry and plum as the rounded ripe attack fades. The finish is of vinous herbal spices and browned fruits, with medium plus length. Good intensity for the most part, with medium complexity.

Solid, enjoyable and delicious wine here. Not a stunning example of soaringly complex wine, but a delicate and elegant example of Rioja. Not overly-oak, allowing the wine to shine through, and not overly ripe, enabling the density and concentration speak of fruits and aromatics, not candied syrup. This is a style of wine I prefer, and here is a good example of a ready-to-drink big red that remains juicy and drinkable. Definitely regional in character and traditional at core. Very nice value, for a go-to any day sort of drink.

  • Red blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha. Smooth, taste of dark berries, but a lot of oak notes. Maybe better to wait about 2 years or to enjoy it with a meal at least.

(Bodega Classica Rioja Hacienda López de Haro Crianza) Saturated, very dark ruby color; aromatic, baked berry, spice, black cherry, licorice nose; tasty, tart red currant, spice, cherry, black cherry palate with good balancing acidity; could use 1-plus year and should go 10-15 years; medium-plus finish (90% Tempranillo, 7% Garnacha, 3% Graciano; 18 months in French & American oak)
