When I sampled this at the tasting room I must confess I was a little underwhelmed. I thought it was rather bitter and green, but relying on its reputation for long ageing I bought a mixed case of 6 bottles and now I’m delighted I did, because it has matured beautifully. Alas, this was the last. The bouquet was really positive with yeasty brioche aromas. On the palate there was a complex array of flavours with shortbread, nougat, ginger and brioche. Crisp and fresh on entry this broadened out to give melted butter and honeyed sweetness on a beautiful lingering finish. CHP 92 pts

Purchased direct in 2018 this was now fully mature and rounded. It was still crisp with flavours of honeyed apple transforming to richly buttered shortbread. Surprisingly sweet this had a gentle, lingering and persistent finish. CHP 90 pts

Flatiron Wine & spirits (San Francisco, Ca.): Nose of apple, peach, rich fruit, yeast, and slate, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, sweet fruit, great price under $35, and a medium/long finish, new producer to me.

simpler, though oxidation is a key part of understanding this wine, just wish there was more to it, flavor, clarity, precision
