  • Shows early maturity, I was expecting much 'younger' wine. Maybe bad storage..? (bought in 2022 from reputed merchant, working directly with domaine). Nose shows forest floor, plums, old wood and dried cherry with hint of dried rose petals. Hint of ripe dried red fruits on the finish with drying and tart tannins with hints of wood. At first (PnP) the finish was very tart, after 3h decanting that mellowed a lot, but tartness didn't go away, even after 24h it is still here.

I was very impressed by wines of Monsieur Nicolas - vintages of 2015 and 2017, but this one is different - low on fruit, drying, bit oaky. Maybe N. Rossignol made a big leap in 2015..? Of course, it's not his Volnays, which are very sensual and elegantly opulent wines. Winemaker says that Pernand shows it's best on hot years (need to try 2019) - so yes, this one from classic year shows some rusticity (high iron contents in the soil of Cortons hill surroundings...?).

So mixed feelings and some questions - it looks like winemaking was overdone vs terroir..? Or it's just 'adolescent' phase before full maturity.. ?(it somehow looks, like wine has plenty too offer, but that drying side is worrying a bit). It reminds me bit the style of some Barbaresco - plummy nose with dried roses and old oak and drying tannins with perfect acidity.

More questions than answers, hope this note would be helpful to someone - if it's a perfect bottle - then I would say: hold it for another few years at least.

  • Tasting pour. Dark and savory, smoky, brooding, earthy. This wine displays some character.
