  • While this does not show a ton of Chablis character and is a little rounder than I prefer, it was well-balanced and fresh through the finish. Satisfied with it at the sale price but is not something I would seek out.

  • Probably the least austere Chablis I've had. Honey, candied lime, biscuit, herbal, floral. Wet stoney and salty minerality. Crisp acidity, long-ish finish. Very nice!

  • Summary: This is the first wine in my short Chardonnay vs. Riesling test series - first part: a considerably oaked wine. It suggest that if you like Riesling and live in central Europe, you are likely to get a better deal with it than with Chardonnay, even if oaked.

Note day 4, 6/9/2015: Only on day 4 did it show its full capacity. The palate is coming out much fruitier than before from underneath the acidity which is beginning to soften. Maybe keep your bottles for another couple of years -> 91, but nevertheless not my direction. Today I compared it with the 2014 bottling of the 2006 Nikolaihof Riesling Federspiel Vom Stein which is of a similar price point but on a higher level. Even oaked Riesling seems to impress me more than oaked Chardonnay, given this excellent example. Blame it on a lack of talent for Chardonnay, but it appears as if I can do without it even if it is from Chablis - which is beneficial to my purse.
Note day 3, 6/9/2015: I have to particularly applaud the good length - it has a knack of lingering in the hidden corners of the mouth. But otherwise it bores me a little today -> 89.
Note day 2, 6/8/2015: consistent with day 1. Seems very dry now. Lime, nutmeg and minerality. Long. Oak influence is more in the background now.
    Note day 1, 6/7/2015:
The glass is green golden and slightly foggy immediately after opening. It took about 20 min to clear up (see image above) and still has some floating particles as I write this.
On the nose unexpectedly aromatic. My very limited experience with Chardonnay left me expecting a stern, flat and flinty nose. But this here could be a Riesling nose, except not quite as strong and exuberant. Melon, lime and sea spray.
On the palate very mellow, creamy, lemon, minerality, nutmeg set in oak. They say "70% ... has been aged for 12 months in old oak barrels" and the tongue confirms.
A first impression is a 90, yet overpriced relative to what I pay for a German Riesling at that level.

  • Lemon and stone. Should be pretty stellar down the road.
