I was quite excited to try this 20 year old 1999 Bordeaux blend from Italy that I had picked up in mid-December. When poured this wine was a medium garnet colour that had heavy sediment at the bottom of the bottle. When swirled very quick legs showed along with a secondary set shortly after. To the nose this wine exuded big wood notes which were the only notes I was able to pick out. To the mouth I began to pick out earth & hay notes but this wine did finish smooth with a long aftertaste. Overall I was disappointed with this wine as for the price I had high expectations that did not come through with this wine. At 20 years old I would say this wine has already peaked and would not wait long to consume if you have. I did have a second bottle that I have since exchanged based on my overall disappointment.

Bought 6b for 15/b from a central IL chain 12+ years ago (along with some '00). Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Rich, dark color with no sign of ox; fragrant Bordeaux nose; delicious, mature fruit for about an hour and then began to fade--noticeably diminished after 2h. Won't improve--to be enjoyed soon. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price.

massive and rich bordeaux blend from the king of Franciacorta. Seductive nose with palate of ripe red fruit, still there, and notes of earth, cedar notes. Hints of dry rose the day after. Maurizio Zanella, the King of Franciacorta Bollicine, confirms to be also the master of bordeaux blend (Cab Sauv, Merlot and Cab Franc). Wonderful alone in a fresh evening at La Thuile under the Bianco

Fantastic. Drinking well now but no rush as the fruit (reminiscent of the old black cough sweets I used to have!) is still juicy. Other flavours developing and lovely long finish.

Au summum. Nez sur la cerise kirshé, notes de calcaire. Soyeux, équilibré, du tabac, de feuille mortes, du thé, a encore du fruit. Exquis.
