Here we are trying this 2012 again, now 3 full years off the vine. I thought it was a pretty serious Vinho Verde last year, and am doubly impressed how it has held together for a wine that is designed to be be consumed within the first year of release. The color has yellowed a bit. The little bit of spritz is just about gone. Nice body and character. Still crisp lemon and grapefruit.

Maybe just a little more earthy and a little less simple than most Vinho Verde. There is a welcome, flinty, mineral laden flavor just behind the fruit that is slightly unique. This 2012 is already 2 years and a few months off the vine, which is pretty old for a wine traditionally designed to drink young, but I don't think one is suffering the age at all. Still has a small amount of spritz. In a good way, the first taste to me tastes a little like an imaginary combination of Albarino, Scuppernong and Torrontes. There is a touch of peach skin, apricot pit and tangerine rind in the flavor. A rustic, acidic feel on the roof of the mouth. The acid has a nice mature taste. With some time in the glass, and toward the finish, a lime flavor begins to appear.

Clean, brusque, lemon limey. Just opened, more peaches and white flowers coming up. Pineapple.
