Wow! I'm impressed. I was worried this 9 year-old wine would be too old. Was I ever wrong! The color is a youthful dark purple/Ruby without a hint of orange at the rim. On the nose and palate it hits with red fruits, smoke, lots of mineral, and a little green pepper. Medium body, mild tannins, great acidity, and a meduim-short finish complete an easy-drinking but thoughtfully contemplative wine.
In a blind tasting I would have probably called it a 3-year old Chinon. (And I am a Chinon fan.) Not having much experience with Dornfelder, I can't say if this is typical, but I definitely recommend this particular bottle.

wasn't a good food pairing wine for us. Maybe just didn't have the right thing with it. Was good by itself

Lovely wine though! Smoky danky nose, lots of dark cherry and cranberry on the palate.
