Agree with some older reviews that this wine needed more time. It is now drinking absolutely beautifully with all the lovely blackberry nose and palate bit tannins are smooth and the heat is gone. Wish I had more now.

Recommend a minimum decant time of 2 hours for this wine. Still very closed at 1 hr and even at 2 hrs barely showed some hints of cassis and dark stewed fruits. At 3 hrs was drinking better but still a bit muted on the nose. In my opinion not worth the $70 price point especially when comparing to Plumpjack merlots in the $45-$50 range.

A Merlot with a lot of power, but only a little depth. Dark ruby in color; full in body; nose of cedar and blackberry. Ripe tastes of plum, cherry, and oak, which open up with air. Noticeable heat on the mid-palate and finish. 15.5% alcohol. I love full-throttle CA Merlot (eg, Shafer, Plumpjack) and had been excited to try this - but it seems both too heavy and too simple, a combination that was particularly disappointing at this price point.

--- COLOR: Opaque purple w/ruby-purple rim NOTE: Lovely rendition. Nose is baked berry pie with hint of heat. Mouth is rich & thick with boysenberry liqueur, black currant, molasses, tar and leather. Quite voluptuous and not too oaky like they can sometimes be. Finish carries the theme to the end and picks up some heat. Lovely Merlot, just ripe.

Deep dark purple. Smoky fruit and subtle earthy tones on the nose. Palate reveals oak spices and a hint of cola. Was very enjoyable without food.
