  • A blend of Prugnolo (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).

Dark, almost fully opaque black cherry color with a hint of developed figgy hue. The brooding nose feels somewhat restrained with dense aromas of plummy dark fruit, sweet and quite toasty oak, a little bit of savory oak spice, light raisiny fruit tones and a hint of cherry marmalade. The wine is full-bodied, rich and very powerful on the palate with opulent flavors of ripe black cherries, toasty oak, some dried figs, a little bit of extracted woody bitterness, light milk chocolate tones, a hint of juicy plummy fruit and a touch of peppery spice. The acidity feels moderately high, but most of the structure relies on the assertive and very grippy tannins. This unyielding wall of tannins lends a very mouth-drying note to the lengthy aftertaste along with the powerful flavors of sweet dark plums, sour cherry bitterness, some mocha oak, a little bit of dried figs, a hint of prunes and a touch of peppery spice.

A massively big, concentrated and extracted Vino Nobile that feels more muscular and tightly-knit than most of its peers, but still suffers from the same problem that most of the others do: excessive use of oak. Although the fruit department feels powerful enough to push past the oak, the overall character feels quite oak-heavy. Fortunately the wine feels like it is built for the long haul, so most likely it will survive long enough for the oak to integrate better. Definitely not a wine for people who can't stand tannins, because this beast certainly has them and then some. Good for current consumption if you can stand a lot of new oak, but otherwise I'd leave the wine in a cellar for at least another 5-10 years, preferably even longer. Priced according to its quality at approx. 20€.
