Open for 25 hours. This is a hell of a nice wine. Saturated black purple color, it is completely opaque, and has copious legs. Blueberries and violets absolutely ooze from the nose. And there is a nice dollop of anise in the nose as well. Very pretty. For such a fully stuffed wine, this is incredibly smooth, sleek and round on entry. It then unfolds to reveal a lot of its charm, which takes the form of dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla, and toasty oak. Finishes big. This has tannins, but they do not get in the way of the lovely fruit. Finishes just a bit rustic, but this is definitely a winner in my book. Certainly one of the better Malbecs produced as a stand-alone in California; perhaps only Chateau St. Jean does better. 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

When we first opened it, the aroma & flavor was pronounced fruit with a leathery finish. However, as the wine got more air the tannins moved forward overwhelming the fruit. After a day, the wine is still to harsh. At $47 this is an expensive Malbec that hopefully has great potential since it is not ready to drink.

This is no my favorite varietal. That said, a good effort. Got better as it sat, even after a 2 hour decant. Lots of better wines for the price.
