  A lovely Mayacamas mountain '03 Syrah. With 14,5% abv on the label, but only 13,5 actually showing, this was a welcome respite in my exploration of New World Syrah with personality - and this had it, in spades. A bit short on the finish, but so very interesting on the nose, with baked venison, a touch of brett, roasted game, raspberry pie and the lightest touch of vanilla and smoke. With 8 years under its belt, this is past its prime, but proved a great case study into the varietal and growing region (with bottle age). Made in the vineyard. Drink now.
