This bottle was flawed--dried out cork. There is a trend to not use foil to cover the cork. Add that to a cork that wants to dry out and this is what you get. I get very few flawed bottles but all of them seem to be those without foil covering. If you are reading wineries--please stop.
This winery is now known as "Little Frances". Got a good review from Esther Mobley few months back. Previous CT reviews were, I think, way too early. It is just coming into it's prime, according to Esther. Semillon is not seen often but I think worth finding. I see it as a mix of Chablis and Chenin Blanc from South Africa. Plenty of white fruit with mineral with a hint of smoke and I am guessing in stainless.

Moderate yellow, slight gold. Aromatic - a slight herbaceous babywipe plasticky underripe melon rind, roasted pumpkin, reductive smoky character that's part of young semillon. Also... lots of honey on pear. This has sweetness to the nose. It's mid-development (2012).
Palate: Alcohol seems moderate - I know it's 11.5%, but my perception is off (it's served a bit warm). Dry, high acidity, no phenolic bitterness.
I really like this! It seems a little richer than the classic Hunter Semillons I've had, but maybe that's the slight development and the temperature. Score: 8.5-9.

Fleshy stone fruit, baby coconut meat, melon, bees wax and with a bit of warmth a touch of cider. Showing a certain roundness (imagine some elevage in neutral oak?) with a medium acidity. A solid sipper that would go well a lot of light summer fare.

Still quite youthful. Great texture, very charming fruit. NB: this bottle had foil.
