  • Elegant chianti, yet somewhat fuller than the 2010 due to the heat of the vintage. Typical red fruit and acidity. Very nice. Drink now. I actually enjoyed this more than the leaner and thinner (more "classical") 2010, hence the score.

  • The nose was rich and brooding, showing dark red fruits, ginger cookie, wood spice, licorice, and with time in the glass—a savory note of roasted meat. On the palate, velvety textures caressed the senses, followed by crushed wild berry and dried spices, in a pliant and appealing style. The finish showed grip, yet remained fresh and refined in its dark fruit. The Castelrotto opened up a great deal over the course of an hour.
