Community Tasting Notes (3) Median Score: 88 points

  • This bottle was gifted to us some time ago... a nice Bordeaux, did not need decanting. The community end-dates are a bit messed up (begin 2015, end 2015), so have put forward 2022 end-date.

  • "Typical Bordeaux red with that pencil/graphite taste to it. More fruit came as it opened up and there was also a bit of oak too. Tannins were there but not huge. A great accompaniment to some grilled meat!"

  • Quite deep and dark blackcurrant color that permits only very little light through. Quite ripe and fruity nose with aromas of plums, some sweet blackcurrant tones, a little bit of sweet, cedary oak and light chocolatey tones. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and somewhat dull on the palate with flavors of woody bitterness, ripe plummy fruits, some blackcurrant-driven dark berries, a little bit of chocolatey oak and a hint of mocha. The wine is moderately low in acidity, which makes it lack intensity and freshness; the structure relies solely on the moderately firm and grippy tannins. The finish is quite stern and grippy with rather short flavors of chocolatey oak, ripe dark berries, some jammy blackcurrant tones and a hint of cedary oak.

A dull, one-dimensional and boring Bordeaux red that is quite recognizable for one, but lacks everything that makes a good Bordeaux good. The biggest pitfall here is the low acidity, which turns the wine rather dull and short in flavor, but the fruit department is also lacking intensity and the oak use seems a bit excessive in relation to the fruit. The only thing that feels appropriate here for a Bordeaux is the tannin structure, but that isn't nearly enough to save the wine. Quite an uninspired effort, pass.
