  • Previous bottle must have been off. This is a nice low cost PN.

  • Poured into a decanter. Presents as a light ruby with (surprisingly) purple highlights. Nose is a little on the subdued side, but the wine is nicely perfumed with tart and dark cherry, forest floor, just a touch of cola, and a little whiff of barnyard that comes and goes. I'm super happy that this doesn't smell like Cherry Coke like so many others do. It's light and fruit-forward (tart cherry, mostly) on the palate with some very subtle earthy undertones. It finishes for miles with tart cherry all the way. It is firmly structured with strong acid and low-to-medium(-) fuzzy tannins that complement the tongue-tingling acidity.

Part of this (maybe one glass) was made into a mulled wine and cranberry sauce, which was poured over a sage turkey meatball and cornbread stuffing. It worked wonderfully in the dish and paired with itself very well.

For $13 this is a very solid budget Pinot noir. We've certainly had some at this price point that were just shy of stomach-turning. Don't expect mounds of complexity from this juice, but you certainly can expect to enjoy it for what it is. The high acid and bright fruit might allow for a wee bit of aging. Right now, though, we'll call it "very good," 87/100.
