Another discount bin buy, this one normally costs around $15 but I got it for $7 which is a steal. I'd buy it again at that price, or higher, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay full price for it. It was a relatively simple red with a simple aroma, but thick and heavy.
Aroma is mostly of cooked fruit, like jam, and a little boozy, but the aroma is mild and not at all complex. The flavor and mouthfeel are heavy and thick. Sweeter than I like, about at the sweetest limit of what I can handle before I start strongly disliking something (I generally only like dry wines). Lightly sour, not very bitter, and there's a bit of a salty and umami flavor. Moderately tannic...very thick on the palate and leaving a light astringency on the tongue and in the throat. Finish leaves an aroma of fruity olive oil. This same smell lingers on the cup after drinking it.
I recommend this if you want something that is smooth but full-bodied and flavorful. I could imagine this pairing well with high-quality European bread, olive oil, mesclun salad greens, and red meat. It is pleasant drinking on its own, but it could leave me feeling bogged down if I wasn't in the mood for it. It's the type of wine that makes me feel sleepy and kinda zoned out. I almost want to save a bit of this and turn it into vinegar because I have the feeling this would make an exquisite red wine vinegar. Something about its aroma and flavor, I'm just craving that, imagining what it would turn into.

Beautifully creamy, dark cherry nose with a dusky, lovely earthiness below. A spicy, medium-to-full bodied wine with pronounced but pleasant tannins and a lingering cedar box taste that leads to a pleasantly licorice-like finish. This is wonderful. It's Merlin's table wine. Take a brief trip to the dark side and give this one a try.

This years blend is 50% Syrah, 25% Carignan, and 25% Grenache. I have purchased this in other vintages over the years and also the higher end mourvedre, la Bolida. They are nice values.
Fairly big/rich, dark plums, black currants, black cherries, tobacco, garrique, spice, pepper, and earth. Nice with grilled grass-fed strip steaks.
