  • immediate impression: Swullo (R.I.P) big time Cali Syrah. Lasted throughout the dinner and presented new THICK aspects continually. Not for the lovers of delicate wines, this is a compact in-yah-face Syrah that made us love Minervois even more.

    Black red.
Huge, extracted nose of young Syrah without the peppery aromas. Rich, dark, youthful, fruity asphalt and ... a fist!
In the mouth it displays M tannins and M acids with mega rich fruit with a plethora of aromas, ranging from blueberries and nasturtium to asphalt and licorice. Long, lingering, satisfying and rich.

Sometimes you just WANT it! And tonight it filled the hole that the first btl of Beaujolais Villages 'en primeur' created with its fine-tuned and sensitive minerality BUT superb ineptitude when it came to matching any kind of food...

Absolutely married the special hog flank the chef had prepared for us at brilliant Italian organic restaurant Bisi Basi in Yokohama:

Wife: 91p, after some debate regarding how to value this wine's shapes. (We were both deliberating 88p as well.)

Amazing wines are obviously made in Minervois, maybe Anne Gros and Pierre Cros making the ones that have most turned our heads so far. Journey continues!
