  • Pale-medium gold in color. Exotic and floral on the nose, with aromas of blooming wildflowers, perfume, pineapple, guava, and honey. Perfect for spring. On the palate, quite full bodied and rich, with rounded tropical fruit, honey, wax, and a hint of white pepper. Rather low acidity, which doesn't generally make me happy when it comes to chardonnay, but this carries itself well and isn't hot or flabby, its tropical fruit balanced more by its floral and spicy side rather than by acidity. Actually, if I tasted this blind, I'd probably call it a marsanne/roussane Rhone white (though it does have some of that savory/nutty/mineral undercurrent like you get in white Burgundy). In any case, it's delicious, and I'm glad to make its acquaintance.

Coming back to the bottle after a few hours, it has settled a lot more into a clearly chardonnay vibe, the tropical fruit morphing more into peach and apple and apricot, but still savory and spiced like a nice white Burg, which is pretty amazing considering this is unoaked. More amazing though is the crazy value here. Great label too. Hugely recommended.

  • The nose is nice - somewhere in between a Pinot Grigio and a Viognier. The palate doesn't deliver, but is a little more Chardonnay. Relatively little oak, which is what I was looking for, but it leads to a rather simple wine.
