  • Note: this is not the Prophet's Rock-produced Pinot Noir, my 2012 Wine Soc Exhibition Central Otago PN was made by Villa Maria.

    Not decanted. Screw cap seal.

Disappointing. Green edge to it, too dry; 'rustic' without the charm.

    C....med density.

    N.....too much wood. Very alcoholic.

T.....savoury style, brambles, woody, a bit thin and green. Short. Much drier than I remember previous bottles being. Too dry, no genuine fruit quality here. Grippy tannins, feels like a 2nd pressing (has the 1st cuvee gone to a better deal/label, Villa Maria?).

VFM?.....Next time I'll look for the Prophet's Rock-produced PN. Wine Soc, you'd be better to return to them !!, Villa Maria have done your Exhibition label no favours here.

  • Bought The Wine Society Uk £13.95

This is the Central Otago Pinot Noir, made for the Wine Soc by Prophet's Rock.

It is lighter in style than I expect from an Otago Pinot. Certainly much lighter than Prophet's Rock's own label Pinot. I like it. Nice acidity, reasonable length, not rich but the fruit is ripe enough. Not a complex wine, there ain't all that much going on here, but, hey, it is less than £14.00. By NZ Pinot standards, that's cheap!

A little tannic and more stalky than I remember the last bottle being.

VFM? Pretty good value for money I'd buy again, esp in good vintages. I certainly like it more than the Wine Soc's Exhibition Marlborough Pinot made for them by Villa Maria - which was verrrry ordinary!

  • This bottle: The Wine Society's Exhibition Pinot Noir Central Otago 'Prophet's Rock' Single Vineyard 2012. Vineyard is in Bendigo, Central Otago, New Zealand. Tasted Feb 2015. £14.50 The Wine Society, UK.
Again, the Wine Soc delivers with their Exhibition label. Loved it, but it isn't yet mature. I have 2 further bottles, and won't be touching them until they have 5 yrs cellar age. At the moment it is almost a semi-muddy garnet colour, not clear - nothing wrong with that - and a mute nose, just a hint of wood. It is not a fruit bomb, but has plenty of power, lots of structure that will loosen up when matures, tons of acid to fore, it finishes dry but there's plenty of fruit in the middle. Gentle tannic grip, but no unripe green veggie edge here. Value-for-money? Remarkable, when you consider the same wine, under the Prophet's Rock own label, is £25.00 at same retailer (but this Exhibition wine is £14.50). Marked it Silver+.
