This was a very good wine. We had it side by side with a 2014 Nicora Russell Family Syrah. It's very much in a Caliza style, rich, full-bodied, with lots of black fruit, especially black cherry for me. It was a little hot, and it's high in alcohol 15.7. We thought the Nicora had more finesse but the Caliza is great if you love that big bold, high alcohol, saturated style.

Typical Caliza: high extract, rich, plump fruit, yet smooth, rich and harmonious, with adequate acidity to avoid going over the edge into fatness or syrupy sweetness. Has a nice cocoa and vanillin finish. young, but very drinkable already; great stuff. Oh my! 4-12-17-9: 92/100.

Deep dark color with lasting legs after swirl; nose is dark ripe fruit; taste is sweet; went well with cassoulet and later with dark chocolate

Dark, inky, blueberry, clove, beef jerky, and a touch of smoke. Nice acidity, and a memorable finish.
