An expressive nose of earthy, deep red cherry fruits with a streak of minerality and more than a hint of cedar. Complex aromatics. Medium weight on the palate but with good flavor intensity and above average length. Silky texture. Good acid. Something attractively mysterious about the darker flavors of this wine. Initially grippy dusty tannins - with some dryness - but after a couple of hours these had softened. Really quite earthy on the palate - iron - a true wine of the soil. You can almost taste the Volcanic dirt. No doubt a wine of authenticity with a strong sense of place. This has all the elements to go a lot longer. If drinking now this needs a decant, as the tannins are very present. This was more enjoyable the next day. Fine.
The often observed similarity to Burgundy seems to me to be not in the flavor of the fruit - which here is darker with more cedar and ferous minerality - but in the way the fruit is delivered on the palate. The palate is mid weight only yet the fruit expands to give a generous and silky texture that resembles Burgundy.

My first bottle since 2015, and the time has done well for this wine; classic Etna color, aromatics and body in a delicious and subtle wine; complex aromatics, with crushed red fruits, minerals, raw red meat, smoke, leather and hints of anise and clove; medium weight, great balance; definitely a food wine, with nice acid, bittersweet balsamic notes; lovely dusty tannins, with a long, mineral and bittersweet finish.

Nose of cherry, cigar box, balsamic, vanilla, anise. Slightly dusty palate witn robust tannins and good length. Needs a while to transition, would leave about an hour; it is best after about an hour in the glass when it really seems to come toghethet

A lovely Sicilian wine and a great alternative to expensive burgundy. The wine is transparent in its reflection of the terroir of Etna. Cherry and mint are evident in the nose, while the palate reflects the same notes with the addition of anise and a dusty palate. I know that may sound like Sangiovese, but this is an entirely different experience.
