  • Having recently had a corked 2000 Sanvierriens, I took a Sunday night flyer with a wine bottled during the first Clinton administration. Cork presented well - fully intact and not a hint of rot. Pale gold color hinted that the wine had handled the time well. First nose was of straw, grass and vegital elements. But in the mouth was ripe sweet fruit and a honey finish. Spot on after 13 years. The wine was remarkably better the warmer it got and the last few glasses were consumed closer to room temperature.

I doubt that there is much left in this wine, but boy is it delicious and a testament to the Baron himself and his love of chenin blanc. I first tasted his '82 Aigle Blanc at a tasting hosted by Greg Moore in 1996 and was blown away by the durability and elegance of the wine. This did not disappoint.
