I have not had a lot of luck with Calaveras County wines and this one is no different, but it started out with promise as we decanted and it was varietally correct and decent. Within an hour it faded into what all the other Calaveras wines did, which was to become sweet, overly-extracted prune juice. Note: We bought at the tasting room and treated the wine with kid gloves all the way back to Colorado, where it got placed in a 58 degree wine refrigerator, so it was nothing WE did. Am beginning to think the Murphys' wine tasting rooms unload their bad stock or else Calaveras Country wine has a steep climb to anything of quality versus their price point, although other than Hovey, we have not found Calaveras wines anything but overpriced prune juice with high alcohol content.
