Needed significant aerating. The tannins rounded and the fruit was subtle. Hints of minerality. Finish was moderately long. More age should really bring out the best in this wine.

This plummy and round Cabernet is tasting a bit past its prime, but there's a risk that I got a badly stored bottle at auction. Given this uncertainty, I won't score the wine, but here are my impressions, for what they're worth (which may be nothing):
Dark red in color, full in body, nose of crushed blueberry, plum, and graphite. Tastes of ripe boysenberry, licorice, dark chocolate, prunes, and vanilla, with a lingering yet dry finish. 14.1% alcohol. The fruit has outrun the structure here, which gives the wine a juicier quality than I typically expect from Benoit (whose wines are anything but austere). This blew off some of the sugar after an hour of air. Drink now.
This doesn't have the core that I find the best 2012's have at this point. Instead, it tastes a bit baked, unfocused, and dry. If this bottle was fine, it could suggest that the Sleeping Lady is an early-term drinker - something I doubt, since the Fait-Main's from this vineyard in 2013 and 2014 seemed to have all of the stuffing to go the distance. The more likely possibility is that this was a bottle that saw a little too much sunshine or heat, which is why I've declined from rating.

Outstanding in texture, fruit and body. An excellent balance of the three.
