  • 11,5% alcohol.

Somewhat translucent and rather developed cherry red color with a maroon core and a colorless rim. At first somewhat smoky, phenolic and sligthly rustic nose with subtle undertones of bottle stink, but opens up to reveal delicate aromas of wizened red cherries, some roasted game, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness and a tertiary hint of soy sauce. The wine is developed, savory and medium-bodied on the palate with flavors of sour cherries, some tertiary notes of beef jerky and soy sauce, a little bit of bloody game, light crunchy notes of crowberries and a sweeter hint of wizened forest fruits. High in acidity with textural medium tannins. The finish is quite long and pretty tertiary with a little bit of tannic grip and flavors of sour cherries, some gamey meat, a little bit of phenolic smoke, light tertiary notes of beef jerky, a hint of burnt rubber and a touch of gravelly minerality.

A still rather pleasant and thoroughly drinkable Rioja Reserva, but the age feels quite obvious here. The wine is getting quite tertiary and oxidation is creeping in. Although the wine seems to be gradually gliding downhill, it is still alive enough to be enjoyable for now. How much longer is anybody's guess. I'd say best to drink sooner rather than later, since I doubt the wine isn't getting any better with further aging.

  • Remarkably clear with very little sediment. Initially flat but opens nicely in the bottle after about half an hour. Good fruit.

  • Pre-National Day 2015 (Pine Close): Tasted blind. Pop and poured and drank over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Thin legs.
Nose is clean, medium- intensiy, with aromas of earth, sweet tea leaves, slight red cherries. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium- alcohol (11.5%), medium- tannins, medium- body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of earth, sweet tea leaves, sour red cherries, dried sour plums. Medium+ finish.
Good quality but past its prime now. Drink up.

  • Had it before we started the horizontal 2002 tasting and the wine was brought by a companion who had it the day before.
Medium brownish core. Light spicy and smoky nose along with blackcurrant, soy and earth.
On palate, leather, blackcurrant, dirt, earth, dried plum and dried cherry. Sour finish indicate that the wine no longer holding after a day.
Not rated as this is not a pristine bottle. But it should be nice on the night when the wine was just opened.
