Open in the bottle for a couple hours; the cork crumbled into a million pieces which had me concerned for such a young wine but it seems to be ok. Nose is faintly savory, hot rocks and vague seaweed with hints of beef and black pepper. It’s exactly what I want in a Syrah but just…lighter than I want it to be. I wish the nose had more oomph. The palate is picking up the slack a little bit though with more savory, umami, mushroom, brisket, broth. I love that. Great acidity and good length. It’s nicely balanced when drinking on its own but with my dinner of pan-seared duck breast, glazed carrots, spiced cauliflower and cornbread it was borderline awful. It tasted hot, boozy, flabby, way out of balance. Hard for me to reconcile those two experiences into one score, but perhaps it is just better on its own.

Deep ruby. Bright, with a hint of earth. Balanced, with decent acidity. Zingy white pepper, and a nice touch of maturely wrinkled black olives. Very enjoyable over three nights.

This drinks 2x its cost and has the nose of 3x. Lavender, herbs, caramelized meat, supple tannins, great acid.

perfumed nose, floral, lavender. Smokey, bacon fat, olive, pepper on the palate, northern rhone-esque, but with a touch more fruit. great value.
