Much more Pauillac than the last bottle, this had notes of cassis and cigar box on the nose, perhaps a little more oak than I remember, then some dark raspberry and herbs. In the mouth, much deeper and more focused than the last one, very Pauillac in character, with streamlined blackcurrant and a hint of blackberry mid-palate, before some raspberry on the finish.
Still going strong, it was interesting to compare again with the standard 2001, of which I'm a great fan. The JG 01 is more polished, more intense and just has a little more of everything.
Absolutely no hurry to drink this, it will continue to evolve for at least the next ten years.

Showed significantly better then the last bottle. Very expansive mature bouquet of medium ripe red and black fruit, bell pepper, florals, aged meat. Chewy and definitely not lean. Long finish

From the first sniff it was clear that this was a great bottle: very refined, fragrant aromas of violet, plum and cassis, with a strong wave of raspberry at the end. The attack was crisp and fresh, with beautiful notes of cassis and plum, quite powerful but effortlessly elegant, moving into a complex middle section where some blackberry emerges, and a very long finish with strong notes of raspberry, rounded off like the attack by a sensation of cool freshness. Like a hypothetical blend of Pauillac, Margaux and Chinon. Sensational.

My first thought is this is like the regular S-M but with a bit more fruit. This is a lovely wine, but needs more time – or a long decant. I did pnp, and at first this had that restraint one associates with traditional Bdx – a tight yet smooth package, that has a closed inner core but a somewhat acidic and lively border. After an hour or so, there are notes of leather, sous bois, currants and other red fruits, on the nose. The palate is still pretty tight, but the finish is getting much longer.

Gorgeous wine, wow. The fruit is so pure - blue and red fruited, bright and lively on the mouthfeel. Healthy dose of olives, saddle leather, cassis, but all in balance, all delivered in such a seamless package. Peaking now for those who appreciate the secondary stage, keeping the mouthfeel and fruit fresh and lively. Such a rewarding wine!
