Starts with some good fruit, mainly berry with some cherry tones, reasonable acidity but follows with bitter and metalic tanins that don't resolve. Some woodsy tones in tannins but, again, way too bitter for my taste. Actually tasted better after sitting in frig and corked for 2 days. OK for a $4-$6 bottle, but overpriced at $9

First pour was through an aerator. Pleasant aroma, initially with a moderate smell of alcohol and with a strong tannin taste, along with dark fruit on the palate. By the time and of the glass, it was much more open and smooth tasting, the aroma and taste much more pleasant and vibrant. Black plum, blackberry and black currant, and mild spiciness. Will buy again.

With a surprising and pleasing complexity, it's like a combination of the better Merlot-/Pinot Noir-/Veneto Ripasso-like characteristics in an easygoing Kool-Aid style that has very suitable natural sweetness, acidity and tannins. Beware of a considerable oak component in the flavour - American oak - although it does complement things well. If Kool-Aid expanded and developed a pre-mixed alcohol division, one could easily imagine that this could be one of the most successful items– they would easily sell out even with a healthy mark-up. Comparably, while the Woodwork Pinot Noir was also a very good deal in terms of similar applications, this I consider even better - although I'd still get some of both. Recommended. Sweet ripe fruit, decent balance, almost no green flavors. Very good quaffer at a very good price.
