Very little sediment, limpid with brownish tinge in color. Nose initially closed, hint of acacia; bright acidic note on the tongue. After an hour of decant flavor is tart and sour cherry with an underlying savory note. By the next day things have integrated nicely, though the fruit is staying hidden. If you have a bottle, give it a long decant or hold on to it for a few more years.

Burgundy, Day 4 (Beaune, France): This was oddly reduced on the nose, but otherwise this was pretty consistent with the lighter, more elegant 2017 that we tasted just before. In fact, it is pretty much that wine with the tannins a little finer probably thanks to the modicum of age. Graceful and elegant, but a wine (like all the others) that would benefit from food.

A Survey of Volnay (Chicago, IL): Wow, I love the perfume here. There’s a very mild bit of stemminess on the nose here, but it adds a lot of elegance to the nose on this wine. The red fruit is delicate and floral. Obviously young, with some really elegant floral elements on the palate. This is a wine that is still showing a little bit of a saccharine quality from the stems, but it’s not over the top here, and it’s actually quite pleasant. I love the sweet fruit and the youthful freshness. It may be a crime to say, but definitely ready to go. My 3rd, group’s 2nd.

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting vertical. Nicely spiced with a floral start. Slightly lighter and leaner than I recall from before, or expect from 2014, but well balanced with good length. Good now.

Musique & Vin - Dîner de Gala - Douzième édition du Festival (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Fully engaging red cherry and berry aromas and flavors, both sweet and savory. Spice and floral hints. Wonderful balance and elegant textures. I liked this much more tonight in a full glass vs at a tasting one year ago. In its peak drinking window.
